We are one of the leading providers of spray foam insulation in Fresno, Central and North California. Our products at Extreme Industrial Coatings have been used in many buildings both industrial and commercial to help improve the thermal insulation properties of their walls, tanks, & other parts of their facilities. We’ve helped improve energy-efficiency in these areas.
What Is Foam Insulation?
Foam insulation is fast-becoming an industry standard when it comes to keeping interior spaces thermally-efficient by preventing the usual movement of air between the inside and outside of a building. Foam insulation is composed of 2 liquid components that are combined and induce a chemical reaction upon contact with the surface that needs to be insulated. With the initiation of the chemical reaction, the liquid component together with the blast of air that is used to spray it with expands to create polyurethane foam. This is what effectively seals the gaps, cracks, or any other imperfections on the wall or surface where air can easily pass through, effectively creating a barrier between the inside and outside environments.
Foam insulation technically involves the creation of an air-tight, impermeable barrier between the inside of your property and the outside environment so that denser cold air will not move into the less dense warm air. It’s like putting plastic insulation on your walls, floors, and ceilings, except that the plastic membrane is sprayed onto such surfaces and allowed to expand to form a seal. It is not plastered on.
Why Do You Need Foam Insulation?
Tanks that need to be maintained at certain temperatures require a lot of power consumption. Foam insulation can minimize the costs of this dramatically. With the use of polyurea over the foam this provides a system that is extremely durable and prevents birds or insects from penetrating the coating.
More than a third of air can infiltrate your home, office, commercial establishment, business, or industrial facility through the walls, floors, and even ceilings. This can be further worsened if there are cracks, holes, crevices, or any other imperfection in surfaces where air can easily move in and out of the building.
If it is hot outside and you have your air conditioning in full blast, the cold air inside your building will move out through these cracks and spaces in your walls or ceilings, thus heating up your interior space. Because you now have a slightly higher temperature inside your home, your air conditioning unit will have to work even harder. This can be readily seen in your next electric bill whereby you will see a spike in your power consumption.
The same is true in cold weather environments where you will be using your heater inside your building to keep you warm and comfy. Unfortunately, since cold air will always move to an area of lesser density – where warm air circulates – then you will have cold air moving from the outside to the inside of the building through holes and cracks on the wall. Again, this increases your energy expenditure which you can see in your next month’s electric bill.
Foam insulation provides you with the best possible solution to seal off these cracks, crevices, and holes on a variety of surfaces. Sure you can patch up these holes, but you can only do so on those holes that you can see. Unfortunately, there can also be microscopic cracks that are not seen by the naked eye or are hidden behind wall partitions. Since foam insulation is sprayed and expands on contact, you are effectively sealing off even these cracks that you cannot see.
This will lead to significant reductions in your energy expenditures while also allowing the optimum operation of temperature-critical appliances, equipment, and machinery inside your building.
